Hand Stripping

What is Hand Stripping?

Hand Stripping is the process of removing the outer guard hairs from a dog's coat by skilfully plucking the hair during it's Telogen or Exogen phase of growth. This process is not painful, but is labor intensive for both dog and groomer.

By removing these hairs at the end of their life cycle, we allow room for new, healthy hairs to take their place. The result is a denser, smoother, shinier, and more uniform coat.

Your dog will not be bathed on the same day as being Hand Stripped, as the oils in their coat are important for the health of both their skin and hair before, during, and after the process.

Is My Dog a Candidate?

Wire coated breeds- such as most terriers, as well as some Spaniel breeds, and even the occasional mixed breed who have never had their hair cut by clippers are typically ideal candidates for Hand Stripping. If your dog has had their hair cut by clippers at any point, Hand Stripping may no longer be an option.

How Is Hand Stripping Priced?

We base our Hand Strip pricing primarily on time, rather than weight. This allows us to tailor your pup's price to their exact needs. To provide you with an estimated price quote, we will need either a recent photo of your dog or to see them in person.
